Believe it or not, Florida does have a growing season. You can’t just grow whatever you want, whenever you want and the summer months are no exception. If you are looking to grow vegetables, you still have a few great options. You can grow Eggplant. Lima beans, Peppers, Watermelon, Sweet Potatoes or Okra.
You can pretty much take your pick of herbs to grow but make sure in the summer months you give them a little reprieve from the blazing sun. Many basil’s do well, oregano, lemon balm, lemon grass, parsley. rosemary & tarragon; just to name a few.
As far as plants in your garden go, the tropical variety work wonderfully in the summer but remember, if you live in an area where it gets cold in the winter, you could lose a few of them. Hibiscus, black-eyed susan and succulents love the heat and ferns will thrive in the humidity, under or around trees! Your garden doesn’t have to look like a desert in the summer, you just need to make sure you plant the right things, at the right time!
