Blueberries are wonderful plants to have even if you have a limited space to grow them in. Blueberries are great for containers as well as in the ground. It would be beneficial for you to plant 2 different types next to each other and be sure to get the kind that fairs well in your Zone. The two I will suggest to you for zone 9 are Becky Blue & Climax. Both produce a good amount and the berries and are sweet to the taste.  Here are some additional care tips:

  • First Year – remove ALL flowers & do not allow to fruit
  • Grow them in course pine bark
  • Containers – 3 gallon
  • Soil: well draining – they so not like to sit in water
  • Make sure to weed often – don’t let them invade
  • 4 – 6 hours of full sun – the more sun, the more fruit
  • Frequent & light fertilizer – April, June, August & October
  • Best time to plant is mid-December to mid-February
