Blueberries are wonderful plants to have even if you have a limited space to grow them in. Blueberries are great for containers as well as in the ground. It would be beneficial for you to plant 2 different types next to each other and be sure to get the kind that fairs well in your Zone. The two I will suggest to you for zone 9 are Becky Blue & Climax. Both produce a good amount and the berries and are sweet to the taste. Here are some additional care tips:
-
First Year – remove ALL flowers & do not allow to fruit
-
Grow them in course pine bark
-
Containers – 3 gallon
-
Soil: well draining – they so not like to sit in water
-
Make sure to weed often – don’t let them invade
-
4 – 6 hours of full sun – the more sun, the more fruit
-
Frequent & light fertilizer – April, June, August & October
-
Best time to plant is mid-December to mid-February
