Attracting wildlife is pretty awesome but make sure you think about what you want to attract. Keep in mind that each animal you attract could possibly have a predator. I had to keep this in mind when I thought about putting Mondo grass in my mom’s yard. I said the bunnies will come and play and my friend replied, ‘I’m sure her cats will love them’. No Mondo grass for mom’s yard!
You can attract wildlife by having a bird bath, planting wildflowers, making different plant sections that promote different ecosystems, creating small water features; use your imagination, the possibilities are endless.
You can even make your home a certified wildlife habit from the National Wildlife Federation and you don’t even have to live on a huge plot of land to do so – Certified Wildlife Habit Requirements. I think that would be a pretty cool thing to do in my yard in the future. Right now where I live has too many feral cats which would love to feed on the animals I am looking to attract.
