I hope you enjoy this video. I put it together for my newsletter a couple of years ago and thought I would share it in my blog as well.
Growing your own pineapple requires great patience in the beginning but it does come with great reward! It took 3 years for my first pineapple to appear but it was the best tasting pineapple I had ever!
If you live in Central Florida then you should see your pineapple flower sometime in March and then you will start to see your amazing pineapple take shape. Usually in the beginning of August it is ready to eat. Do not expect them to look like the ones you buy in the store. I have found that my homegrown pineapples are much smaller.
You know they are ready to be picked when they are a yellowish to orange color and it is giving off a sweet aroma. Once you start to smell it, pick it because if you don’t, an animal from your neighborhood will. Eat, enjoy and replant that top!
